Summary

A parable is a short story drawn from ordinary life that carries a spiritual lesson. Luke introduces this one by stating its purpose outright: Jesus told it to show that people should always pray and not give up. A widow keeps coming to a judge who neither fears God nor respects people, and he eventually grants her request simply because she will not stop asking. The argument then runs from the lesser to the greater: if even an unjust judge yields to persistence, how much more will a just God respond to those who call on him.
