Syllabus tag: Kenya CBC | Grade 8 Agriculture and Nutrition | Strand 2.0 Food Production Processes | Sub-Strand 2.3 Crop Pest and Disease Control (10 lessons)

By the end of this sub-strand, you should be able to:

  • Identify vegetable crops attacked by pests and diseases
  • Control pests and diseases on vegetable crops
  • Acknowledge the importance of controlling pests and diseases in vegetable production

Summary

Pests and diseases show themselves differently on a plant. Pest damage often looks like punctured leaves, cut-off seedlings, or curling leaves. Disease often looks like wilting, black or brown spots, or rotting plant parts. Recognising which signs point to which problem is the first step towards choosing the right control method — like handpicking pests or removing affected plant parts.
