Syllabus: CBC * Grade 5 * Christian Religious Education * Strand 2.0 The Bible * Sub-strand 2.5 A Hand Writes on the Wall

Lesson objectives

By the end of this topic, you should be able to:

  • Explain the story of the hand writing on the wall (Daniel 5:1-13, 25-28).
  • Outline lessons learnt from the story.
  • List five benefits of humility, as guided by the story.
  • Emulate Daniel's example by being faithful to God.

Summary

King Belshazzar disrespected God by using sacred temple vessels for a drunken feast while praising false gods. A mysterious hand wrote a message on the wall, which only Daniel could interpret -- a warning that Belshazzar's proud, disrespectful reign was ending. Daniel's honesty and humility, even before a king, stand in sharp contrast to Belshazzar's pride.
