Summary
Urbanisation is the increase in the proportion of people living in towns. Towns grow through rural-urban migration and natural increase, and their site and function explain their location. Kenya's towns include Nairobi (administrative and commercial), Mombasa (port), Thika (industrial), Kisumu (lake port) and Eldoret (agricultural collecting centre).
