Syllabus tag: KCSE | Geography | Form 4 | Topic 34 Energy

Lesson objectives

By the end of this topic, you should be able to:

  • Classify sources of energy as renewable and non-renewable.
  • Describe the sources of energy used in Kenya and their advantages.
  • Explain the factors influencing the development of hydro-electric power.
  • Explain the energy crisis and the measures for energy conservation.

Summary

Energy sources are renewable — hydro, geothermal, solar, wind, biomass — or non-renewable — coal, petroleum, natural gas, uranium. Kenya relies chiefly on wood fuel domestically and on hydro-electric, geothermal and wind for electricity. HEP requires a permanent river, steep gradient, hard rock and a market.
