Summary
Nationalism is the desire of a people to govern themselves. It grew in Africa after 1945 from the war, education, the United Nations and the example of India. Ghana achieved independence in 1957 by constitutional means; Mozambique in 1975 after armed struggle; and South Africa attained majority rule only in 1994.
