Summary

A lake is a body of water occupying a hollow in the land surface. Lakes are classified by how the hollow was formed — by earth movement, vulcanicity, erosion by ice, wind or solution, deposition by rivers, waves or ice, or by human activity. Kenya's Rift Valley lakes are tectonic, and most are salty.
