Syllabus tag: KCSE | Geography | Form 3 | Topic 24 Oceans, Seas and their Coasts
Lesson objectives
By the end of this topic, you should be able to:
- Describe ocean movements — currents, tides and waves.
- Describe wave erosion and the features it produces.
- Describe wave deposition and its features.
- Classify coasts and explain the formation of coral coasts.
Summary
Ocean water moves as currents, tides and waves. Destructive waves erode; constructive waves deposit. Erosion gives cliffs, caves, arches and stacks; deposition gives beaches, spits and tombolos. Coasts are submerged, emerged or coral, and the Kenyan coast shows submerged features with fringing reefs.
