Summary

Transport moves people and goods; communication moves information. Both developed from human porterage, animals, canoes, drums and messengers to railways, motor vehicles, ships, aircraft and spacecraft, and from smoke signals to the telephone, radio, television and the internet. Each advance shortened distance in time, which changed how societies work.
