Summary
Industry advanced as new sources of power were harnessed — muscle, wind, water, coal and steam, then electricity and oil — and as metals were mastered, above all iron. The Industrial Revolution began in Britain from about 1750, and spread to Germany, the USA, Japan and later to Brazil, South Africa and India. It rested on the Scientific Revolution that preceded it.
