Summary

The Trans-Saharan slave trade forcibly moved enslaved people from regions of Africa, across the Sahara, to markets in North Africa and beyond, over many centuries. Understanding why this trade developed, how it was organised, and its lasting effects is part of understanding African history honestly — and connects directly to why promoting social justice today matters.
