Summary

This topic applies the main-idea-versus-detail distinction (first covered for listening in Theme 3.1, and for prose reading in Theme 4.2) specifically to poems. Poetry compresses meaning, so the main idea is often less directly stated than in prose -- inferring it, and inferring unfamiliar vocabulary from context, are the two central skills here, applied to poems on road safety.
