Summary

Genesis opens with two accounts of creation, told from different angles: the first (Genesis 1:1–2:4a) moves through six ordered days ending in the creation of humankind, male and female together; the second (Genesis 2:4b–25) focuses more closely on the forming of the first man and woman. Reading both together reveals not a contradiction but two complementary pictures of the same event -- and specific things they reveal about God's character.
