Administrative Law — full notes

Introduction to Law and Governance · Administrative Law

Administrative Law

1. Meaning and functions of administrative law

Administrative law governs the powers, procedures, and accountability of government bodies exercising public functions. Functions include controlling the exercise of state power, protecting individuals from abuse of that power, and ensuring administrative decisions are made fairly. Sources: the Constitution, statutes creating public bodies, and judicial decisions interpreting the limits of administrative power.

2. Separation of powers

Power is divided among three arms - the Legislature (makes law), the Executive (implements and administers law), and the Judiciary (interprets law and resolves disputes) - so no single arm holds unchecked power.
