Electromagnetic Induction
Electromagnetism · Electromagnetic Induction
Syllabus tag: KCSE | Physics | Form 4 | Topic 35 Electromagnetic Induction
Lesson objectives
By the end of this topic, you should be able to:
- Explain electromagnetic induction and state Faraday's and Lenz's laws.
- Apply Fleming's right-hand rule.
- Describe the a.c. and d.c. generators.
- Describe the transformer, its losses and the transmission of power.
Summary
Electromagnetic induction is the production of an e.m.f. whenever the magnetic flux through a circuit changes. Faraday's law relates the size of the e.m.f. to the rate of change; Lenz's law gives its direction — the induced effect always opposes the change producing it. The transformer applies induction to change voltage.
