Syllabus tag: KCSE | Physics | Form 1 | Topic 2 Measurements I

Lesson objectives

By the end of this topic, you should be able to:

  • Define length, area, volume, mass, density, time and their units.
  • Measure length, area and volume using appropriate apparatus.
  • Determine density of regular and irregular solids and of liquids.
  • Solve problems involving density and volume.

Summary

Measurement expresses a quantity as a magnitude with a unit. Length is measured in metres, area in square metres, volume in cubic metres, mass in kilograms and time in seconds. Density is mass per unit volume, and it is the quantity that explains why objects of the same size can differ enormously in mass.
