Summary
Despite Africa's fertile land and favourable climate in many regions, much of the continent suffers recurrent food shortage. The causes are natural — drought, floods, pests — and, more importantly, human: poor policies, conflict, poverty, poor storage and transport, and concentration on cash crops. The effects include malnutrition, dependence on aid and diversion of foreign exchange.
