Geomorphology · Internal Land Forming Processes
Syllabus tag: KCSE | Geography | Form 2 | Topic 8 Internal Land Forming Processes
Lesson objectives
By the end of this topic, you should be able to:
- Define internal land forming processes and distinguish them from external ones.
- Describe horizontal and vertical earth movements and their results.
- Explain the causes of earth movements.
- Explain the theories of continental drift and plate tectonics.
Summary
Internal or endogenetic processes originate within the earth and generally build up the land surface. Earth movements are either horizontal, producing compression or tension, or vertical, producing uplift or subsidence. They are caused chiefly by convection currents in the mantle, and are explained by the plate tectonics theory.
